Definition:

Pentastomiasis is an unusual parasitic zoonosis caused by the larval stages of pentastomes (tongue worms), generally limited to the tropics and subtropical areas. Its definitive hosts are reptiles whilst humans serve as rare intermediate hosts. Infection is usually asymptomatic.
