Phaeohyphomycosis

Definition:

Phaeohyphomycosis is an infectious disease caused by many species of dematiaceous fungi. It is associated with a wide range of inflammatory responses. Over 100 species and 60 genera of dematiaceous fungi have been confirmed as agents of phaeohyphomycosis. They are commonly found in the soil and are generally distributed worldwide. Exposure is thought to be from inhalation or minor trauma.
