Definition:

Peptide hormone are polymers of small numbers of amino acids (from fewer than ten to a few hundred); in other words, they are small proteins. Like monoamines, they generally utilize membrane-bound receptors. Peptide hormones regulate plant development, and, in addition to salicylic acid and jasmonic acid, play a role in pathogen defense.
