Pseudofolliculitis barbae

Definition:

Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a common skin disorder occurring predominantly in males of African origin, characterized by acneiform papules and pustules that result in keloidal scarring localized to the facial and submental regions. It is caused when highly curved hair shafts repenetrate the skin. A single nucleotide polymorphism in KRT75, which leads to a disruptive Ala12Thr substitution, has been demonstrated in the disease.
