Zeocin selection antibiotic is a formulation of phleomycin D1, produced by Streptomyces verticillus, is an alkaline, water-soluble, copper ion chelated glycopeptide antibiotic.

Resistance to Zeocin is conferred by the Sh ble gene product from Streptoalloteichus hindustanus, which inactivates Zeocin upon binding to the antibiotic. Therefore, Zeocin is a popular and effective antibiotic for selecting vectors bearing the Sh ble gene in a variety of cells types (bacteria, eukaryotic microorganisms, plant and animal cells).

Protocol

The Zeocin selection antibiotic solution can be used according to the following methods:

1. Add Zeocin selection antibiotic solution in proportion to the sterile cell culture solution, mix well before use.

2. Add Zeocin selection antibiotic solution in proportion to the cell culture solution, filter and sterilize.
