    Protein phosphorylation is a key post-translational modification underlying the regulation of many cellular processes. Phosphatases and kinases contribute to the regulation of protein phosphorylation homeostasis in the cell.     Protein phosphatases have evolved in separate families that are structurally and mechanistically distinct.
