At equivalent molar concentrations, both the salt and free forms of a compound exhibit comparable biological activity. Nevertheless, the salt form (Melitracen hydrochloride) usually boasts enhanced water solubility and stability.

In Vivo

Melitracen (10-90 mg/kg; p.o. once daily for 3 months) affects behavior, weight and growth of rats[1].

Administration: Oral gavage; 10-90 mg/kg daily; for 3 months
