Definition:

Transfection is a process of deliberately introducing exogenous genetic material into eukaryotic cells, that is, cells actively or passively introduce exogenous DNA fragments under certain conditions to obtain a new phenotype. Transient and stable transfection can be achieved by means of electroporation.
