Trichuriasis

Definition:

Trichuriasis is a parasitic disease caused by the whipworm Trichuris trichiura, which is prevalent, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas. The infections occur by ingestion of embryonated eggs through contaminated soil or food. Adult trichuris whipworms live in the large intestine (caecum and colon) and cause chronic dysentery and/or rectal prolapse.
