Bartonellosis

Definition:

Bartonella species are fastidious gram-negative bacilli. They are usually transmitted by hematophagous insects, such as sandflies, fleas, and lice but can also be transmitted by animal scratches and bites. Human bartonellosis is a group of diseases with a rapidly increasing clinical spectrum. Only a handful of more than 20 members of the genus are known to be of medical significance in humans.
