Brazilian purpuric fever

Definition:

Brazilian purpuric fever (BPF) is a pediatric disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae biogroup aegyptius (H. aegyptius) and is often fatal. This disease is characterized by purulent conjunctivitis and subsequent acute onset of nausea, vomiting, hemorrhagic skin lesions, fever, prostration, and shock. Vascular destruction is a distinctive trait.
