Lassa fever

Definition:

Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness caused by Lassa virus (LASV), an Old World arenavirus in the Arenaviridae family of -ssRNA viruses, and transmitted by rodents. LASV was first discovered in 1969 in Nigeria.
