NOD-like receptors (NLRs)

Definition:

NOD-like receptors (NLRs) are highly conserved cytosolic pattern recognition receptors. NLRs plays a critical function in surveying the intracellular environment for the presence of infection, noxious substances, and metabolic perturbations. NLRs are sub-divided into four subfamilies based on the variation in their N-terminal domain: NLRA or Class II transactivator (CIITA), NLRBs or neuronal apoptosis inhibitor proteins (NAIPs).
