Oxidase (MAO)

Definition:

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is a flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)-dependent enzyme found in the outer mitochondrial membrane of neuronal, glial, and other mammalian cells. MAO is a useful target in the treatment of Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) and depressive disorders. Both isoforms, MAO-A and MAO-B, are known to play critical roles in disease progression.
