Saint Louis encephalitis is an infection of the central nervous system caused by Saint Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV), a flavivirus in the Flaviviridae family of +ssRNA viruses, and transmitted by Culex mosquitoes. SLEV was first isolated in 1933 in St Louis, Missouri, USA.
