Type 2 diabetes (T2D)

Definition:

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by a persistently elevated blood glucose, or an increase in blood glucose after a meal containing carbohydrate. Unlike Type 1 Diabetes, most individuals affected by T2D have elevated insulin levels (fasting and/or post glucose ingestion), unless there has been beta cell failure.
