Viral hepatitis

Definition:

Viral hepatitis is liver inflammation due to infection by viruses. There are five major hepatotropic viruses, which are different in viral taxonomy. Among them hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are oncoviruses associated with hepatocellular carcinoma [DS:H00048].
