Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) is a multiple-level regulated enzyme, resulting from a complicated evolutionary process that assigned it many physiological roles. XOR consists of two different forms, xanthine dehydrogenase and xanthine oxidase (XO), and is a rate-limiting enzyme of uric acid production from hypoxanthine and xanthine.
