Background
The Collectrin protein assumes a crucial role in amino acid transport by serving as a binding partner for amino acid transporters SLC6A18 and SLC6A19, thereby regulating their trafficking on the cell surface and modulating their activity. It may also play a part in the trafficking of amino acid transporters SLC3A1 and SLC7A9 to the renal cortical cell membrane. Furthermore, Collectrin acts as a regulator of SNARE complex function and functions as a stimulator of beta cell replication. It exists both as a monomer and a homodimer, with the dimerization preventing CLTRN cleavage by BACE2.
