MERTK signaling contributes to diverse processes, including macrophage clearance, platelet aggregation, cytoskeleton reorganization, and engulfment. In the retinal pigment epithelium, MERTK regulates phagocytosis, and it suppresses the innate immune response by activating STAT1 in the Toll-like receptor pathway, promoting the production of SOCS1 and SOCS3.
