Mitochondria-associated ER membrane (MAM)

Definition

Mitochondria-associated ER membrane (MAM) is a functional subdomain of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane that tethers to the mitochondrial outer membrane and is essential for cellular homeostasis. MAM disruption is a common pathological feature in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
