Pyruvate Oxidase

Pox; Phosphate-dependent pyruvate oxidase

Pyruvate Oxidase is an important oxidoreductase that oxidizes pyruvate for energy and hydrogen peroxide production, and plays a key role in bacterial metabolism. Pyruvate Oxidase enhances bacterial respiration by increasing ATP production, thereby increasing the bacterial growth rate and vitality. Pyruvate Oxidase produces hydrogen peroxide, inhibits the growth of other bacteria, thereby providing a competitive advantage for pyruvate oxidase producing bacteria. Pyruvate Oxidase also regulates cellular redox signaling pathway, regulates the physiological functions of cells. Pyruvate Oxidase dysfunction leads to bacterial infection, microbial community imbalance, and metabolic disorders[1].
