Rhinosporidiosis

Definition:

Rhinosporidiosis is a chronic, granulomatous infection caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi, a protist belonging to the mesomycetozoea family of aquatic parasites, which primarily affects the mucous membranes of the nose and eye. Disseminated disease is rare. Rhinosporidium seeberi was first described in 1900. The disease is more common in South India and Sri Lanka.
