Solute carrier organic anion transporter family member 3A1

Definition:

Mediates the Na(+)-independent transport of organic anions such as prostaglandins (PG) E1 and E2, thyroxine (T4), deltorphin II, BQ-123 and vasopressin. Also displays a low transport activity of estrone 3-sulfate. Shows a pH-sensitive substrate specificity towards T4 and estrone 3-sulfate which may be ascribed to the protonation state of the binding site and leads to a stimulation of substrate transport in an acidic microenvironment. Hydrogencarbonate/HCO3(-) acts as the probable counteranion that exchanges for organic anions.
