Deoxyceramide accumulates under the conditions of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Deoxyceramide is unable to be further metabolized to more complex sphingolipid, and is toxic when accumulates in the body. Deoxyceramide increases in differentiated adipocytes in vitro .
