Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human), a member of calcitonin-like protein family, is a peptide hormone secreted by parafollicular cells (C cells) of the thyroid (endostyle). Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human) protects against calcium loss from the skeleton by the direct inhibition of bone resorption and the indirect effect through the inhibition of the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland during periods of calcium mobilization in skeleton-preserving actions[6,7].
Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human) lowers blood calcium and phosphorus mainly through its inhibition of osteoclasts and prevents postprandial hypercalcemia resulting from absorption of Ca2+[8].

Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human) (10 nM, 8 days) inhibits the PTH-stimulated calcium release and basal 45Ca-release from the bone[3].
Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human) (0.01-10000 nM, 48 h) inhibits PTH (10 nM)-stimulated bone resorption in a dose-dependent manner[5].

体内実験

The serum Calcitonin/CALCA Protein (Human) levels are significantly greater in thyroid intact (CT+) rats than thyroidectomized (CT-) controls during parathyroid hormone (PTH)-induced hypercalcemia[4].
