The Hendra virus Glycoprotein/GP initiates infection by binding the virus to sialic acid-containing cell receptors. Upon binding, GP induces a conformational change, triggering fusion between the virion and cell membranes by the F protein. The Hendra virus Glycoprotein/GP plays a pivotal role in initiating infection by attaching the virus to sialic acid-containing cell receptors.
