4-Nitrophenyl palmitate (4-Nitrophenyl hexadecanoate) is a chromogenic substrate for lipases and esterases. 4-Nitrophenyl palmitate serves as a substrate for measuring esterolytic activity of porcine pancreatic lipase, Staphylococcus aureus protease, and Burkholderia sp. lipase via colorimetric detection of released p-nitrophenol, with turbidity issues resolved by adding Triton X-100 to the reaction mixture[1].
