Abstract

Twelve previously undescribed aromadendrane and alloaromedendrane-type sesquiterpenoids, valeralins A-L (1-12), together with three known ones were isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis var. latifolia. Among them, compound 12 was the first aromadendrane-type norsesquiterpenoid with hemiacetal moiety. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis (1D and 2D NMR, and HRESIMS), as well as electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. In addition, compound 7 exhibited in vitro anti-inflammatory activity on NO production in RAW 264.7 cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with an IC50 value of 21.64 μM.
