Aminopeptidase N/APN Protein exhibits broad specificity as an aminopeptidase, contributing to the final stages of peptide digestion arising from the hydrolysis of proteins by gastric and pancreatic proteases. Beyond its digestive role, it participates in the processing of various peptides, including peptide hormones like angiotensin III and IV, neuropeptides, and chemokines. Additionally, it is implicated in the cleavage of peptides bound to major histocompatibility complex class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells. Aminopeptidase N/APN may play a role in angiogenesis, cholesterol crystallization promotion, and potentially acts as a binding partner for amino acid transporter SLC6A19, thereby regulating its activity and influencing amino acid transport.
