The FGF-21 protein plays a pivotal role in promoting glucose uptake within differentiated adipocytes by specifically inducing the expression of the glucose transporter SLC2A1/GLUT1, while not affecting SLC2A4/GLUT4 expression. Its activity is contingent upon the presence of KLB. Beyond its localized effects, this protein contributes significantly to the regulation of systemic glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity.
