IL-2/IL-15Rβ (also known as CD122) is an integral part of the receptor complex for both IL-2 and IL-15. IL-2R is a heterotrimeric receptor complex consisting of three distinct subunits: α (CD25, p55), β (CD122, p17), and γ (CD132, p64). The expression of these subunits determines the receptor’s binding affinity. Low-affinity IL-2R, consisting of the α subunit with or without the γ subunit, and cannot internalize a ligand. Intermediate-affinity IL-2R, consisting of the β and γ subunits, and is capable of internalization of bound ligand. High-affinity IL-2R, consisting of α, β, and γ subunits, and capable of internalizing ligands with the highest efficiency[1][2].
