Immunohistochemical analysis of paraffin-embedded human cervix tissue using Stathmin 1 Antibody (HY-P80348, 1/2000). The section was pretreated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 8 minutes. The tissues were blocked with quick block buffer for 0.5 hours at room temperature, washed with PBS and PBST, and then incubated with the primary antibody overnight at 4℃. The detection was performed using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. Tissues were counterstained with hematoxylin and mounted with DPX.

Function
Stathmin 1 is involved in the regulation of the microtubule (MT) filament system by destabilizing microtubules. Prevents assembly and promotes disassembly of microtubules. Phosphorylation at Ser-16 may be required for axon formation during neurogenesis. Involved in the control of the learned and innate fear

Expression
Tissue_specificity:It is widely distributed. The strongest expression is found in the brain, spinal cord, and cerebellum, followed by the thymus, bone marrow, testes, and fetal liver. Moderate expression is found in the colon, ovaries, placenta, uterus, and trachea. It is detectable in all other tissues examined, but at significantly reduced levels. The lowest expression is found in the liver.
Induction:Down-regulated in response to enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection (at protein level) -
Isoforms & Post-Translational Modification
P16949 has 2 isomers: P16949-1: 17303 Da (predicted); P16949-2: 19824 Da (predicted).
Many different phosphorylated forms are observed depending on specific combinations among the sites which can be phosphorylated. MAPK is responsible for the phosphorylation of stathmin in response to NGF. Phosphorylation at Ser-16 seems to be required for neuron polarization (By similarity). Phosphorylation at Ser-63 reduces tubulin binding 10-fold and suppresses the MT polymerization inhibition activity -
Subunit
Binds to two alpha/beta-tubulin heterodimers. Interacts with KIST
