Description

(-)-Casbene (Casbene) is an antimicrobial agent that can be found in Euphorbiaceae plants. (-)-Casbene retards Aspergillus niger development, and inhibits Escherichia coli growth. (-)-Casbene can be used for the research of bacterial and fungal infection[1][2].

In Vitro

(-)-Casbene (10-20 μg/mL; 2 days) inhibits the development of Aspergillus niger on potato dextrose medium[2].
(-)-Casbene (20 μg; 7 days) significantly inhibits both endogenous and gibberellic acid-stimulated elongation of leaf sheaths in dwarf-5 mutant Zea mays seedlings by 35-40% over 7 days[2].
(-)-Casbene (1-10 μg/mL; 12 h) inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli K-12 by greater than 95% in glucose-minerals medium[2].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
