Cefcapene pivoxil, the pivalate ester prodrug form of Cefcapene, is an orally active third-generation cephalosporin with a wide spectrum of anti-bacterial activity. Cefcapene has the potential for the palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) research.

At equivalent molar concentrations, both the salt and free forms of a compound exhibit comparable biological activity. Nevertheless, the salt form (Cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride and Cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride hydrate) usually boasts enhanced water solubility and stability.
