Stearoylcarnitine accumulates in β cells, leading to arrest of insulin synthesis and energy deficiency in type 2 diabetes mouse. Stearoylcarnitine inhibits lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) in rat and rabbits plasma. Stearoylcarnitine acts as a metabolomics biomarker for Parkinson’s disease.
