    In Vitro

Gentamicin sulfate is a more effective in vitro bacterial inhibitor than combined penicillin-streptomycin, is nontoxic to tissue culture monolayers, and does not inhibit virus replication[2].
Gentamicin sulfate has been used with success as an additive in commercial mycology media to inhibit growth of bacteria and has been shown to be bactericidal for a wider range of organisms (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus sp., and Streptococcus faecalis) than penicillin and streptomycin[2].
Gentamicin sulfate does not interfere with the production of cytopathic effect by certain echoviruses and polioviruses in tissue culture, is nontoxic to Rhesus monkey kidney, HeLa, and human amnion cells, and is stable at autoclave temperatures[2].

    In Vivo

Gentamicin (10 mg/kg; s.c.; every 12 h for a total of six doses) sulfate improves survival and alters the inflammatory profile in a murine model of depsis from P. aeruginosa[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: FVB/N mice (6-10-week-old; ~20 g) received an intratracheal injection of a solution containing the ATCC 27853 strain of P. aeruginosa[3].
    Dosage: 10 mg/kg
Administration: Subcutaneous injection (s.c.); every 12 h for a total of six doses
Result: Survival at 7 days was 100% for mice. Down-regulated the proinflammatory cytokines, IL-6.

    In Vivo:

For the following dissolution methods, please prepare the working solution directly. It is recommended to prepare fresh solutions and use them promptly within a short period of time.
The percentages shown for the solvents indicate their volumetric ratio in the final prepared solution. If precipitation or phase separation occurs during preparation, heat and/or sonication can be used to aid dissolution.

    Help & FAQs
    • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
