Liver Cancer

Liver cancer, also known as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a malignant tumor that originates in the liver, either as a primary cancer arising within the liver or as secondary cancer resulting from metastasis from other organs. It is a life-threatening condition and one of the fastest-growing cancer types in the United States, with HCC accounting for over 12,000 deaths annually. Common symptoms include loss of appetite, weakness, bloating, jaundice, and upper abdominal discomfort, though these are often non-specific. Major risk factors include chronic hepatitis infection, cirrhosis, exposure to toxins like aflatoxins, family history, obesity, and diabetes. Treatment options depend on the stage and severity of the disease and may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these approaches.
