TG Protein, human is a dimeric glycoprotein produced by thyroid follicular cells that functions exclusively within the thyroid gland. It serves as a substrate for the synthesis of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), while also storing iodine and inactive forms of thyroid hormones within the follicular lumen of thyroid follicles. Thyroglobulin can activate Akt kinase activity in FRTL-5 thyroid cells.
