ICAM-2/CD102

ICAM-2 (CD102) is a compact member of the intercellular adhesion molecule family, carrying only two extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains in contrast to the five domains of ICAM-1. It is a ligand for the leukocyte integrins LFA-1 (αLβ2) and Mac-1 (αMβ2). Unlike inducible ICAM-1, ICAM-2 is constitutively expressed at high levels on resting endothelium and is concentrated at endothelial cell junctions, providing a baseline adhesion platform for circulating leukocytes. It also resides on platelets and most leukocytes. Through these interactions CD102 supports leukocyte trafficking across resting vessels and contributes to immune surveillance, and its cytoplasmic tail contributes to endothelial junctional organization.
