Description
& Advantages

Glucose is an essential nutrient for cell growth and metabolism. It serves not only as the primary source of cellular energy, but also as an important precursor for the biosynthesis of macromolecules such as glycoproteins and glycolipids.

During in vitro animal cell culture, glucose is included as a fundamental energy source in nearly all culture media and culture solutions. Because different cell types exhibit distinct metabolic characteristics, their glucose requirements may vary considerably. For example, neuronal cells rely predominantly on glucose metabolism for energy production and therefore generally require relatively high glucose concentrations; in certain culture systems, additional glucose supplementation may be necessary to support optimal cell growth.

MCE D-Glucose Solution (200 g/L) can be used as a serum-free supplement for cell culture media and is suitable for a variety of culture systems, including but not limited to DMEM, RPMI 1640, DMEM/F-12, IMDM, and MEM.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
