CD318/CDCP1

CD318, better known as CDCP1 (CUB domain-containing protein 1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein carrying three extracellular CUB domains. It is highly expressed on hematopoietic progenitors, differentiating keratinocytes and the basolateral surface of simple epithelia. Src family kinases phosphorylate its cytoplasmic tail, linking CDCP1 to integrin-driven adhesion, migration and anoikis resistance. The receptor is cleaved by plasmin at the cell surface, generating fragments associated with invasive growth. Elevated CDCP1 expression marks poor prognosis in lung, renal, colorectal and breast cancers, and antibody-drug conjugates directed against it are under preclinical and early clinical evaluation.
