Arthritis

Arthritis is a group of conditions characterized by inflammation and damage to one or more joints, leading to symptoms such as pain, stiffness, swelling, redness, warmth, and reduced joint mobility. It encompasses over 100 different types, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, and septic arthritis, each with distinct causes and progression patterns. Risk factors include aging, genetics, joint injury, obesity, and autoimmune dysfunction. While the exact etiology varies, underlying mechanisms often involve immune system activation, cartilage degradation, and synovial inflammation. Some forms can affect other organs, such as the skin, eyes, or lungs, and are associated with systemic manifestations. Key genetic factors include SYK (Spleen Associated Tyrosine Kinase), involved in immune signaling pathways like Innate Immune System and MIF Mediated Glucocorticoid Regulation. Treatment focuses on symptom management through medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids (e.g., Prednisolone), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and in severe cases, surgical intervention. The condition significantly impacts quality of life, but early diagnosis and comprehensive management can slow progression and improve outcomes.
