Description & Advantages

Most bacteria can release membrane vesicles with diameters of approximately 20–400 nm, known as bacterial membrane vesicles (bMVs). These vesicles contain a variety of functional biomolecules and can participate in the transport of virulence factors, horizontal gene transfer, and the delivery of host defense-related factors. bMVs play important roles in mediate molecular communication between bacteria and their hosts and are involved in various biological processes, including bacterial communication, immune evasion, and pathogenesis.

Research on the biological functions and mechanisms of bacterial membrane vesicles often requires the isolation of structurally intact and highly purified vesicle particles. Conventional ultracentrifugation methods require specialized equipment and involve relatively complex procedures. In addition, the high centrifugal forces used during ultracentrifugation may potentially affect vesicle structure and integrity.
