Biological Activity
The structure of PEG-OH contains two key parts that work synergistically:
Hydroxyl group (-OH): This is an active group that can serve as the starting point for further chemical reactions, used for conjugating drug molecules, linking other targeting ligands, or for surface modification of materials.
PEG chain: As a hydrophilic spacer arm, it forms a hydration layer on the particle surface, which can reduce non-specific adsorption and recognition and clearance by the immune system, prolonging the circulation time of the carrier in vivo.
