About LOC109851611

Summary

This region represents a cluster of multiple conserved sequence elements that are thought to act as long range regulators of dorsal root ganglion-directed expression of the runt related transcription factor 3 (Runx3) gene. Deletion of the R1 element disrupts Runx3 expression in Ntrk3/TrkC neurons. Conversely, the R2 element may promote expression in Ntrk1/TrkA neurons. Loss of both the R1 and R3 elements results in limb ataxia. Activity of the R2 element may be antagonized by the R1 element, suggesting that individual sequences in this region act together in a complex combinatorial code. Activity of these elements may be positively regulated by association of Pou4f1/Brn3a to conserved recognition sites. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2017]
