GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG is an influenza hemagglutinin fusion peptide and membrane disruptor composed of 20 amino acids. GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG transiently adopts an activated double-helix conformation under low pH conditions; meanwhile, it self-assembles into oligomers with a stable trimeric core, which further form pentamers and hexamers capable of inducing membrane bending, thinning and long-range disruption. GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG promotes the protrusion of lipid tails and the penetration of polar heads in phospholipid membranes, and is widely used in influenza-related studies .
