GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG
GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG is an influenza hemagglutinin fusion peptide and membrane disruptor composed of 20 amino acids. GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG transiently adopts an activated double-helix conformation under low pH conditions; meanwhile, it self-assembles into oligomers with a stable trimeric core, which further form pentamers and hexamers capable of inducing membrane bending, thinning and long-range disruption. GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG promotes the protrusion of lipid tails and the penetration of polar heads in phospholipid membranes, and is widely used in influenza-related studies.

Biological Activity
GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG self-assembles into stable trimers, tetramers and pentamers at the POPC membrane interface; these oligomers adopt a parallel orientation relative to the membrane, and the larger the oligomer size, the more pronounced the induced membrane curvature and membrane thinning. Their stability and interactions depend on specific internal residues and membrane-facing residues[1].
GLFGAIAGFIENGWEGMIDG adopts an α-helical conformation in model lipid membranes, and an inverted V-shaped conformation in micelles and phospholipid bilayers, with Asn12 located near the membrane interface[1].
