Trimethylacetaldehyde serves as a substrate for Drosophila melanogaster alcohol dehydrogenase (AdhS), undergoing oxidation and disproportionation reactions with the release of NADH, and also forms an inactive binary enzyme-aldehyde complex via a compulsory ordered reaction mechanism[1][2].
