2-Deoxy-scyllo-inosose synthase

2-Deoxy-scyllo-inosose synthase (EC 4.2.3.124) belongs to the class of lyases—specifically, carbon-oxygen lyases acting on phosphate ester bonds. It catalyzes the cyclization of D-glucose-6-phosphate to form 2-deoxy-L-scyllo-inosose (DOIS) and serves as the key initiating enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of 2-deoxystreptamine-containing aminoglycoside antibiotics.
